Overview
Los Angeles is most easily accessed by air, with Los Angeles International Airport, the fifth busiest commercial airport in the world and the third busiest in the United States, the main gateway to the 'City of Angels'. Amtrak also provide a number of rail services to destinations on the western seaboard and across the United States. Greyhound have an extensive bus route network from Los Angeles also, although this is more time consuming. Once you arrive in Los Angeles, you may find it easier to rent a car in order to move around the city. There are also bus, metro and commuter rail services available.
Getting into Los Angeles
Air: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the city's principal gateway, welcoming approximately 60 million passengers annually. The airport contains nine terminals, with a free shuttle bus looping around all the terminals, departing from the kerbside on the lower level. The airport's principal airlines include American Airlines, Allegiant Air, Delta Airlines, Horizon Air, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. International operators at the airport include Aeroflot, Air China, All Nippon Airlines and Emirates. Local, rapid and express bus routes of the LACMTA, Line 8 of Torrance Transit, Line 109 of Beach Cities Transit, and buses of both the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus system's Line 3 and the Culver CityBus's Line 6 all make stops at the LAX City Bus Center, providing access to Los Angeles. Shuttle bus "G" offers a free connection to the the Metro Green Line.
Bus: Greyhound provide a number of services to and from Los Angeles. While relatively inexpensive, buses from other major urban areas tend to be extremely time consuming. Please see the Greyhound website for more information.
Rail: Amtrak, the national rail service provider, offers a number of rail services from Los Angeles to other cities on the western seaboard, as well as to other locations throughout the United States. The main train routes are: The Coast Starlight runs daily between Los Angeles and Seattle via Portland and the San Francisco Bay Area; The Pacific Surfliner runs trains daily between San Diego and Los Angeles, with some trains traveling north to Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo; The Southwest Chief offers daily departures to Chicago via Albuquerque and Kansas City; The Sunset Limited runs three times a week out to New Orleans via Tucson and San Antonio. Getting Around Los Angeles
